Koç Law School Representatives in International Platforms

Koç Law School faculty members and executives visited international partners to strengthen ties in the purpose of stimulating and facilitating cooperation in global education and research.

In order to promote legal education and scholarly research in relation to the globalization of law, Koç Law School representatives have traveled to many destinations this year. While teaching inspiring students from all over the world they had the chance to meet colleagues and senior managers and foster academic debate and  search for further collaborative projects.


ITAM, Mexico

Koç Law School attended Law Schools Global League (LSGL) annual meetings at ITAM School of Law in Mexico with a group of scholars who contributed to four research groups in  drafting joint articles with colleagues from different legal frameworks of member institutions.  Dean Oder chaired the meetings as the League’s president. Zeynep Ayata and Işık Önay represented the Law School at the LSGL Academic Conference. The College of Law coordinated and monitored the organization of the LSGL Summer School thanks to its leadership position in the LSGL and organized the administrative meeting of coordinators and LSGL deans held in Mexico City. Also, our faculty member Yiğit Sayın co-taught a course within the framework of the LSGL Summer School in cooperation with Dr. Amrita Bahri from ITAM.


University of Cape Town, South Africa

With the support of an Erasmus+ International Credit Mpbility project, Koç Law School professors Ayşegül Buğra and Yasin Alperen Karaşahin spent a week in Cape Town in April and May 2018 to deliver undergraduate and graduate level courses on maritime law, insurance law and civil law to the University of Cape Town students and they exchanged ideas with the faculty members as to how to improve academic collaboration between the two schools.


Meeting with International Students at LLM Fairs

LLM Programs in Public Law and Private Law have been presented to international prospective students in multiple destinations globally. Koç Law School  Executive Director, Esra Özcan had the opportunity to meet many inspiring students in the fairs held in Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Cologne and New Delhi and delivered talk at the Indian Bar Association Annual LLM Fair on global opportunities for law students.


Deans Gatherings

Prof. Bertil Emrah Oder, Dean of the Law School, paid many international visits to internationally renowned law schools and had meetings with their deans strengthen academic and research links.

The LSGL Deans’ Meeting was hosted by the Radzyner Law School, Interdisciplinary Center (IDC) Herzliya with the participation of deans from 25 different law schools and Prof. Oder chaired the meeting as co-president of the Law Schools Global League.

ICON-S and IACL Conferences

2018 ICON Society Annual Conference on “Identity, Security, Democracy: Challenges for Public Law” took place on June 25-27, 2018 in Hong Kong. Dr. Valentina Rita Scotti represented Koç University in a panel on “Women Rights at Risk: A Comparative Analysis”. Dr. Scotti also participated in The Xth World Congress of the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL) which was held from 18 to 22 June 2018 in Seoul, Korea.


International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot (IMLAM)

The International Maritime Law Arbitration Moot is the most renowned and consistently organized moot competition in the area of commercial maritime law. Koç University IMLAM team is the first ever team from Turkey to participate in the competition and is comprised of 3 counsels who shall appear in the oral rounds and 2 researchers who assist in the preparation of memorandums and oral arguments. Koç University team is coached by our faculty member Ayşegül Buğra who has previously acted as arbitrator.

19th IMLAM Competition took place at Queensland University, Australia.
